Tuscany wedding and honeymoon guide

It is impossible to speak of Tuscany without mentioning how this region boasts not only the most beautiful natural landscapes, but also an incredible wealth of historical treasures admired throughout the world. Tuscany not only possesses an impressive collection of artistic and architectural masterpieces, it is also home to a number of archeological sites of great importance such as those found in Arezzo, city which the Etruscans elected as one of the 12 capitals of their federation, along with the Tuscan island of Elba - the only island where this civilisation settled.
The regions artistic heritage is largely shared amongst the four ancient cities of Pisa - which by the 8th century was already one of the Maritime republics, Lucca - home to Giacomo Puccini, Sienna - the astounding Mediaeval city where even today the famous Palio horse race is run and which for the Sienese maintains the same importance as for the inhabitants of the 13th and 14th Century, and of course Florence - the capital of the region. If almost half of the world’s artistic treasures can be found in Italy, a large part of these can be found in Florence.
The appeal of Tuscany also lies in the host of wonderful small towns scattered throughout the region - towns such as Fiesole, on the hills above Florence, San Gimignano with its numerous mediaeval towers, Cortona with its ancient narrow streets, the sacred La Verna where St. Francis of Assisi received the stigmata, Certaldo, birthplace to the writer, literary critic, and historian Boccaccio, the beautiful Empoli, and Vinci, where the genius Leonardo was born.
The town of Grossetto and the surrounding Maremma countryside are also worth a visit, as are the wonderful valleys of the Chianti, laden with vineyards, olive groves, and tiny mediaeval hilltop villages.
